Tiger Lily Practice

I just cant paint a good background, but thank god I think a painted a good subject. This picture of a Tiger Lily caught my eyes and I was fascinated by its beauty. So I translated it into a not-so-beautiful but an eye-catching watercolor painting. what do you guys think? feel free to leave your comments. I'd be most grateful to hear them from you. God Bless

You have a good eye Dominick and can draw so this will all evolve as you continue to paint. I will paint an area with clear water being very careful to stay in the area where I want the paint to be...when that has soaked in and is just damp I will paint it and this allows it to have fewer streaks...you might play with this method and see if it works for you.

My comments do not always get here Dominick...not sure what happens. I was saying that when I do a wash, I wet the entire area where I want color...being very careful of the edges...let it soak in a little and then apply the color and it is less streaked. You might try this and see if it works for you and if you like it...just takes some practice to know the right amount of wetness.

Hi Dominick,
I like this painting a lot. Maybe to make the flower the most imporant thing, crop off the top of the painting so the top touches the highest petal of the lily. I ove the background but it's almost swallowing up the lily. You've got a great watercolor touch. keep it up.
